Topic: Conference

Joyce Henderson - 1/29/2007 7:12:56 PM
Wasn't the conference great? I'd like to hear from folks who attended what their favorite sessions were and what speakers they want invited to return.

Thank you for the fantastic conference. Being new to Florida I am grateful to all of you who made this conference happen. A speical thanks to the volunteers who helped man the tables and were unable to attend sessions themselves.
The topics were stimulating, the food was excellent and all the writers were insiprational to each other. I made alot of new friends and look forward to sharing future work with all of you.
I esepcially enjoyed Bethany Brown. She was very informative as to where the market is. Her piegraphs were very useful. I feel all the speakers were very prepared and honest in letting us know youcan be successful with perserverence,
One topic I would like to learn more about next year is Self Publishing and how to use self published books to break into the market. It seems quite a few members are already self publshed.
Again Thank you and see you at the next meeting of SCWG.

Sorry to say I was only able to attend the Friday session this year. I enjoyed hearing Jeff and Deborah Levine Herman, as well as the complete agent panel. I believe what they said completed that bridge that makes the information about publishing/agents my internal knowledge, as opposed to something I heard a time or two. I got Jeff's book (manual/encyclopedia/tome)about publishers and literary agents. I am very impressed at our group's ability to attract such accomplished people to speak. I also particularly enjoyed Diedre Knight.

I was not impressed with Elizabeth Sinclair. In her talk on GMC - Goal, Motivation, Conflict - she acted as if the combination of character considerations was, when it was hatched by a colleague, a novel idea. Anyone who has read about reading has seen the concepts discussed many times. Perhaps there were a lot of new writers in the audience, and if so, I'm sure it was very helpful to them. It would be helpful to know ahead of time what writers the workshop material is most suitable for.

Thanks, thanks, thanks to all the SCWG leaders and volunteers who made the conference possible.

Correction to above -- In my comments about Ms. Sinclair, I meant to say, "... Anyone who has read about writing..."
