Topic: Publisher search advice

Steven Skelley - 5/16/2007 7:03:38 PM
My writing partner and I recently completed a book meant to encourage people who are facing difficult life circumstances.

My partner lost his wife to cancer but survived his own cancer battle though he was only given a less-than-40% chance of survival. Soon after these experiences, he began enjoying life, traveling the world and taking photographs. Our book project uses his photographs paired with words of encouragement.

Any advice on which publishers to query?

You might browse a bookstore for books similar to yours. Note who the publishers are with an interest in nonfiction, self help, inspirational, personal survival, real life experiences, etc. The Christian book market may also be a good venue.

You can also check with Writers' Digest Marketing reference book, on line or at the library. You can also buy this book.

I would check Jeff Herman's Guide to Publishers and Agents (2007 ed.). You can find it at the bookstore.
