Craig Cusanelli - 3/24/2008 9:21:17 AM I am in the finishing stages of two books, For Self-Historians "It's About Me" and For Self-Historians "It's About Us". Both books are a life's journal. My problem is that I am not sure what publisher to use. I have been on the internet and there are hundreds of publishers out there. One question is: Is a self-publisher a good idea or should I stick with a full service publisher? |
3/28/2008 3:46:53 PM - Bill Allen Both have their pros and cons. Either way, you'll have to market the book yourself, though you will probably have an easier time of it if the book is traditionally published. On the other hand, a POD publisher can have a finished product in your hands in a matter of weeks, while many people spend months/years/decades finding a traditional publisher whose willing to take a risk on them. You'll have to pay to self-publish, but you stand to make more profit per copy, provided you have the means to market them.

3/31/2008 3:07:00 PM - Craig Cusanelli Thanks Bill for your input. Do you or anyone have any knowledge of good POD publishers or even traditional that does not require an agent? |
3/31/2008 4:38:19 PM - Bill Allen If you want to go traditional, I would look at the various Writers' Market Guides for a publisher that suits your needs best. If you want to go POD, research them first. Here's a site with a lot of helpful info:

I've used Aventine Press, and they did a good job in less time than they claimed it would take.

6/21/2008 1:13:40 PM - Allan MacLaren You should also check in a bookstore to see what comparable books are selling for. My self-published book was too expensive for the market. |
