Topic: More on punctuation

Judy - 8/22/2006 5:01:03 PM
Are these right or wrong?
Tommy, who was now ‘it’, tagged the closest girl.

“Nothin’, just hangin’ out.”

I know the punctuation goes inside the quotes, but what's the rule on 'half-quotes' or whatever you call them?

Thanks.

Judy, I think it should be: Tommy, who was now "it," tagged the closest girl.

“Nothin’, just hangin’ out.”

Judy, I think the above is right, the apostrophe after "nothin" is just there for a missing letter, so I don't think it affects the punctuation.
